Dear Parent / Carer,
Your son/daughter has been selected by their school / education provider, to access a placement at Reach Alternative Education. The details of this, including the day(s), times and transport arrangements will be provided by the school.
REACH placements take place during normal school hours and form part of the formal education hours for your son/daughter. The school will remain responsible for the overseeing of the education being provided, to which your son/daughter will remain on roll at. Attendance/Non-attendance at REACH is recorded with the school as part of the normal attendance log.
The placement at REACH will include a number of methods to provide learning. However, the focus is to develop the social and emotional skills of students and to work on the following personal attainment objectives.
- Self-confidence, engagement in education, attendance in education, motivation, social interaction and resilience. This is mainly carried out through outdoor activities and education across the South West area working with activity providers / public sites and working in partnership with other agencies. Please see attached objectives sheet that details how we work on these areas.
All our sessions include travel in staff’s personal cars which are business insured and independently inspected. Staff are also all required to undergo driving training and assessments. Food is included in all our programmes and students are expected to wear old warm clothes, as many activities include getting wet and muddy. Students will always know week to week the following sessions activity, however, activities are subject to change due to weather and availability. Please feel free to contact us to check activity bookings or visit the student page on our website www.reachyouth.co.uk
Photos will also be taken on sessions to evidence activities. These will be available to the school. Should you not consent to photography of participant in any particular activity then please write clearly on the consent form or notify us directly. Please also add any medical / dietary needs and additional information that you feel we need to know to support your child.
As part of our work, we work with all agencies including safeguarding teams. We have a duty to act and provide support should we feel any student is at risk of harm outside of REACH and therefore hold the right to communicate with the school safeguarding lead/DSL for any concerns raised.
This programme is set to be a fun and exciting learning opportunity and we hope that your son/daughter makes the most of it. Our base address for students is South Petherton Youth Centre, Lightgate Lane, South Petherton, Somerset, TA13 5AU. The contact telephone number whilst students are in attendance is 07966 281959.
Please feel free to contact us anytime you wish to discuss the placement in more detail or wish to come and visit us.
